During the week of August 10 -16, Community Health Centers around the country celebrated National Health Center Week. We like to do the same by having something fun every day of the week planned!
“We’re very proud to be a part of the network of community health centers that are changing lives daily by providing quality health care services to individuals in their communities who might not otherwise have access to health care,” our CEO and President Bakari Burns says. “As a community health center, Orange Blossom Family Health exists to improve access to primary and preventive care, reduce health disparities, and help our patients manage their chronic health issues. We are sensitive to the special situations our patients face and are able to address their needs in ways that are culturally appropriate for them.”
So how do we celebrate around here?
On Monday and Tuesday, we hosted back-to-school days. Thanks to our supporters help, we were able to give away over 50 bags of school supplies to children in need that came in for their school physicals and a dental check-up.
Wednesday August 13th was National Health Care for the Homeless Day, so we planned a huge day to celebrate! In the morning we had representatives from a handful of local agencies and organizations onsite to meet with our patients and give them helpful information. Then we had our ribbon cutting event at our new location in Sanford! In the afternoon, we hosted an Ice Cream Social at our main site on Orange Blossom Trail to show our patients how much we appreciate them! They were all so excited for their treat thanks to Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt!
On Thursday we had “Team Day” and our staff gets to wear jerseys or t-shirts of their favorite sports teams. While we are all proud members of the HCCH Care Team, this is a fun chance to show off our pride for our other favorite teams!
Friday we had our Staff Appreciation Lunch(thanks to 4Rivers Smokehouse!) and it was delicious! This is a great opportunity for our CEO to serve the staff members and let them know how valuable their hard work is and that it doesn’t go unnoticed. We even had enough food leftover that we got to bring it out to the waiting room and serve our patients!
We rounded off the week with an awesome event called La Feria de la Familia in Kissimmee. This was a great opportunity for us to meet some of the Kissimmee community we are now a part of since opening our satellite site there in April!
Below are a few of our favorite pictures from the week, but be sure to check our Facebook page for all of them!
Thank you to EVERYONE who helped make this week such a great success for our patients, staff and community!
