Volunteer Focus: SuSu

A faithful volunteer since 2006, SuSu Gordy was hesitant to let me anywhere near her with a camera.

“I don’t want this to be about me, okay?,” she protested. “I’m not the one that needs to be celebrated.”

It’s this extremely humble and gracious attitude that makes SuSu a beloved member of the Health Care Center for the Homeless team.

For the past seven years she has served alongside our outreach effort– the HOPE Team(Homeless Outreach Partnership Effort)– and helped them to provide on-site medical care, transportation to the clinic and a support system that our homeless and medically uninsured community members can trust.

“SuSu could be doing anything with her time and she chooses to be out here and to help us,” Nancy Martinez, HOPE Team Lead Outreach Specialist says. “I just think that says a lot about the type of person she is.”
